Liddy Clark’s musical style is not easy to put in a box. Crafting a unique blend of “indie country-pop” Clark has been able to grow a global fanbase totaling north of 500 thousand. Leaning on her deep and thoughtful writing, Clark is willing to showcase her vulnerability which allows listeners to feel connected to not only Clark the artist, but Clark the human as well. Clark’s latest single, Led Myself On, is a prime example of Clark’s willingness to be vulnerable and true. Led Myself On heartbreakingly examines the pitfalls associated with imagining a future for a relationship that was ultimately doomed from the start.
Recently, we had the chance to chat with Clark about her musical journey, style, new single, and more!
Worlds Of Country: When did you know that music was something you wanted to pursue?
Liddy: When I wrote my first original song around the age of 13 I was also learning how to record in a studio and play guitar. It was the perfect storm and I knew that doing all of these things together is what I was meant to do.
Worlds Of Country: Once you knew, what was your first step towards making this dream a reality?
Liddy: I started writing and recording original songs, and eventually put together a band where I’d play out live! I also started making trips to Nashville to meet people in the city and write with my friends.
Worlds Of Country: How would you describe your music style?
Liddy: I’d say my music is a mix of all of the things I love to listen to, so Indie Country/Pop is where I’d probably describe myself genre-wise.
Worlds Of Country: What’s the story behind your new song, “Led Myself On”?
Liddy: I wrote this song about a super casual relationship I had with a guy, we weren’t exclusive dating & we both promised that we weren’t looking for a relationship. Unfortunately, I caught feelings too quickly & ended up seeing him in public with his arm wrapped around another girl. I immediately got the idea for the chorus of this song & wrote the rest when I got home
Worlds Of Country: You’re listed as the only writer on your past few releases, do you feel that being the only writer on a song allows you to tell your story more authentically?
Liddy: In a way definitely! I love co-writing, but the period of time in which all of these songs were written was when I really needed to find my voice as a writer. These songs are the product of that & I’m incredibly proud of what has been put out.
Worlds Of Country: What’s next for you?
Liddy: More new music! I’ve been writing a ton recently & I’ve got a whole set of new songs that will accompany my past releases to make a whole project.
