The joy Adam Cousins felt while belting songs in his parents’ basement deep into the depths of night, was an unrivaled feeling. At around the age of 15 Cousins recalls the insatiable passion for music that struck him and kept him hooked, leading him on a path towards making his childhood dream a reality. Cousins has stayed true to his dream and has continued pushing forward, carving out his own unique lane in the ever populated world of country music. Cousins’ new single, Our Lives tells a “classic tale of young love.”

Recently we had the chance to chat with Cousins about his musical journey, background, new single and more!
Worlds of Country: When did you know that music was the thing for you?
Adam: When I was about 15 years old. I was playing in my parents’ basement and singing all night long. I would practice all week, just hanging out in my bedroom for months. I’d never been so passionate about something. When I played my very first gig and people were cheering and clapping for more, I was hooked.
Worlds of Country: Once you knew, what was your first step towards making this dream a reality?
Adam: Honestly, practicing. You can’t just be good at something and then try it half-way. You need to be great and really put an effort in. I am still learning and practicing to get better… but every day, I am closer to where I need to be. And when the time is right, I know an opportunity will present itself.
Worlds of Country: How would you describe your musical style?
Adam: I have always wanted to stay true to the classic country storytelling in my songwriting, but enjoy adding elements seen more prominently in other genres to bring a fresh and exciting energy to my music. “Our Lives” for example, took on a more rock vibe – and brings a sound that I am truly proud to share with my listeners and identify with.
Worlds of Country: Who would you say most influenced this style?
Adam: I pull a lot of inspiration from artists like Chris Stapleton & Jason Aldean. However, I also think my broad music taste outside of the country realm helps diversify my creativity and bring a fresh energy to the country music world!
Worlds of Country: What’s the story behind your new single, Our Lives?
Adam: While the lyrics walk listeners through a classic tale of young love, there was not necessarily one specific inspiration or story behind “Our Lives”. Co-written with Owen Riegling, it was a project that I felt passionate about from the beginning. And while it took a little bit of time to find exactly the right sound and feeling that we wanted to portray, the whole thing came together rather quickly once we put our minds to it. Filming the music video for the single was a fun and fulfilling experience as we were able to add another dimension to the experience by presenting the love story in a different light – sharing the ups and downs, and showing how those first love feelings can last a lifetime.
Worlds of Country: What’s next for you?
Adam: Right now, there are a few things coming out this year still. A new single “Let It Rip” dropping everywhere in late August! Another one called “In The End” sometime in the fall! I have a lot going on for shows through the summer. Haggersville Rocks opening up for Dan Davidson and Aaron Pritchett which I am super excited about!
